He volunteers his time teaching Astronomy and Astrophysics to various organizations to inspire our youth to consider a future in STEM.&nbsp; John lives in Walden with his wife, children, two dogs, and a cat.</p><p><strong>Why run for the Pennsylvania State House?</strong></p><p>John watched in disbelief on January 6th while supporters of President Trump attempted to hijack our democracy and was even more upset to see our legislature attempt to invalidate the votes of millions of Pennsylvania voters. He could not, in good conscience, sit on the sidelines while the threats to our liberties and freedoms were under attack. He began to stand up and speak out against injustices in our local community. He decided the next logical step would be to take his ideas to the Pennsylvania State House to stand up and defend our Constitutional Republic. John wants to be a reasonable voice for our community and to focus on building a better future for everyone.</p><p>John believes that to build a better future, we must change how our legislature functions. He believes that our government only works for some people. John wants to change this. John will fight to protect the reproductive freedoms of Pennsylvanians by codifying this right into our state Constitution. John believes that we should raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour and have the minimum wage adjusted annually based on the annual increase by the Social Security Inflation Index. John believes that we must reform how we fund our schools. We must stop kicking the can down the road, work to support our schools fairly, and stop making mandates on our local school districts without fully funding them. He also believes we must reform and hold our charter schools to the same standard as our public schools. Finally, he believes we must provide property tax relief to our communities. Due to intentional neglect by our legislature, by not fully funding mandates to schools, townships, and counties, communities are left with no alternatives but to raise our property taxes. We need to act as wise stewards of our resources and ensure that we are investing in the future of Pennsylvania.</p>

Access to comprehensive healthcare, including reproductive services and education, is a fudamental right that contributes to women's autonomy and decision making. Providing affordable stigma-free access to contraception, family planning, and maternal care is crucial.</p><p>Access to <strong>abortion services is a critical component of reproductive rights and women's healthcare</strong>. John will fight to ensure safe and legal access to abortion and empower women to make informed decisions about their reproductive choices, promoting bodily autonomy and personal liberty.</p><p>John believes that a society that prioritizes a woman's access to comprehensive healthcare, including safe and legal abortion services, contributes to fostering individual freedom, gender equality, and overall public health.</p><p>The right to contraception is a fundamental aspect of reproductive rights and autonomy, deeply intertwined with the principles of privacy, equality, and personal freedom. This essay defends the right to contraception by exploring its significance in individual autonomy, public health, and societal progress.</p><h5>Individual Autonomy and Freedom of Choice</h5><p>John believes that reproductive health care is a fundamental right to personal autonomy—the freedom to make decisions about one’s own body without interference from the state, religious institutions, or societal pressures. This autonomy is essential for both men and women to control their reproductive futures, enabling them to decide if and when to have children. Access to reproductive health care empowers individuals, offering them the opportunity to plan their lives, careers, and families on their own terms. Moreover, access can be vital for the health of individuals with certain medical conditions for whom pregnancy could pose serious health risks. Families that can plan the number and spacing of their children are better able to allocate their resources, contributing to the economic stability and well-being of their households. This planning also benefits society at large by reducing the demand on public resources and enabling more women to participate in the workforce, which can drive economic growth and innovation.</p><p>Opponents of contraception rights often cite moral, religious, or potential health risks as bases for their objections. However, these arguments generally do not justify denying access to contraception. Moral and religious beliefs vary widely, and it is not the role of the state to impose a particular set of beliefs on all its citizens. As for health concerns, the vast majority of research indicates that modern contraceptives are safe for most people, and any potential risks are far outweighed by the benefits of preventing unwanted pregnancies.</p><p>In conclusion, the right to contraception is a fundamental aspect of reproductive rights, essential for personal autonomy, public health, gender equality, and societal progress. It empowers individuals to make informed decisions about their reproductive health, contributes to the well-being of families, and fosters a more equal and economically stable society. <p>Protecting Women's Reproductive Rights</p>

<h5>Raise the Minimum wage to $15 an Hour</h5><p>Pennsylvania is lagging behind many states in the country.  For years the Republican controlled legislature have neglected those at the bottom of our economy.  According to the <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://keystoneresearch.org/fact-sheets/?slg=fact_sheets&amp;mdf_cat=-1&amp;page_mdf=4905bb8b33d63092e8e60d1e8cceea85">Keystone Research Center</a>  increasing the minimum wage would give 22% of the 87th district a raise, over 30% of these workers are over the age of 40.  This increase will put much needed resources in the pockets of working families and boost the economy of the 87th District.  In addition, raising the minimum wage would reduce the amount of money that we spend on saftey net expenditures.  Raising the minimum wage is a reward to those in our community who work hard and allows them to live a life of diginity. </p><h5>Protecting the rights of Workers to Organize</h5><p>As of 2023, the Pennsylvania Constitution does not protect the right of workers to organize and collective bargain.  The Democrats in the house introduced <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/billinfo/billinfo.cfm?syear=2023&amp;sind=0&amp;body=H&amp;type=B&amp;bn=0950">H.B. 950</a>, which would guarantee these rights into our Constitution and prevent future legislatures from diminishing these fundamental rights.  John believes that the right to organize and collective bargain is critical to us building a more just and fair economy that lifts everyone up. </p><h5>Investing in Jobs that build a Better Future</h5><p>John believes that the best way to build a strong economy in Pennslyvania is to invest in jobs that have long term economic growth and will provide economic stability to communities that have been left behind.  As we make the migration from fossil fuel base economy we must provide economic incentives to green technology companies to invest in Pennsylvania.  These investments must be targeted to encourage home grown companies, to choose Pennslyvania as their home and to provide incentives to hire Pennslyvanians.  Additionally, we must invest more money in community colleges, trade schools, and high schools to grow the skills needed to fill these jobs.  </p><p></p>

<p>The economy is not working for the American people. Working families’ incomes have been stagnant for decades, while the cost of basic needs—from housing to health care, higher education to childcare—keep rising at precipitous rates.  We must build an economy that is focused on lifting people up with high paying jobs that build a strong middle class.</p>

Addressing the gun violence crisis requires supporting evidence-based programs that prevent gun deaths from occurring in the first place, including by making mental health care more accessible and suppporting suicide reduction initiatives, funding interventions to reduce homicides and gun violence in neighborhoods.</p>
